The Stables at Mortonhall - Bar & Restaurant

The main issue was the service, 2 of the party didn&#39;t have the carvery and had a long wait for our food. One took 30 minutes, I had to ask twice for my meal and i got it after waiting 50 minutes, but everyone at the table had finished eating their meals before mine arrived.. I had Hunters ham and Turkey ciabatta sandwich and roast potatoes, so it shouldn&#39;t have taken 50 minutes.  It was good when it came.The waitress appeared to be working hard and she was friendly and trying her best.  There was no cream for deserts ( kitchen had run out).

This is called Swanston Brasserie, a bar that is especially popular with young trendy people. The environment is indeed very modern. There is a full-sided wine cabinet on the edge of the bar.

Stayed in the hotel many times and seen loads of staff come and go, the refurbishment of the hotel and restaurant is good and it looks lovely in a stunning setting. The food however, is not good. The scotch broth must have been made by a cook who has never hear of it-as it was like no scotch broth we have ever had &amp; we are Scottish! Avoid it! We waited for over an hour for our main courses even though the restaurant only had about a dozen or so tables - what would they do if it was busy heaven knows. The duck eventually came- and it was actually inedible - tough as old boots that Old Tom Morris himself may have left behind - his image adorns the hotel. For guests on DBB as we were - confusion was rife for everyone including the staff - could we use the old Buckstone restaurant in the hotel grounds ??? No-one was sure or even is sure still!! Pity, as it used to be good, but all we keep overhearing from staff And customers is that it is very bad !!! So, unfortunately we endured a second night in this restaurant - waited 50 minutes this time - staff are miserable as ever. Food came and it was actually ok - but then you can&#39;t go wrong with steak and chips.... But should it take almost an hour in a quiet restaurant?? No, it shouldn&#39;t :) Sad to see it like this. Much better service around - I&#39;m sure staff actually smile in nice restaurants.
